When to consider private speech therapy
Common reasons people go private rather than through a funding pathway. You are not on NDIS and not sure whether you qualify. Your child’s issues are clear to you and you want to start now rather than wait for an assessment to trigger an NDIS application. The Medicare CDM plan quota you would use has already been spent this calendar year. You want the flexibility of scheduling sessions based on what works for your family rather than what fits inside a funding-eligible pattern.
Other patterns: you are on NDIS but only some of the sessions are covered by the plan, and you want to pay privately for additional sessions that matter to you. You have private health insurance with extras cover and want to use it for speech pathology. You want a one-off assessment for your own peace of mind without involving NDIS or a GP.

How private speech therapy works at Shine and Speak
You book, I confirm a time, I turn up (or we connect via video), I invoice, you pay. No referral required. No assessment paperwork passing between other providers before therapy can start. No waiting for a plan review. The simplicity is the point.
Rates are published on the service agreement sent before your first session. I charge for the initial assessment, each therapy session, and written reports as a flat per-report fee. Travel for home visits is included within the core service area. There are no hidden fees or recurring commitments. You book as many sessions as you need, in the pattern that suits you.
For families with private health insurance, most funds cover some speech pathology under extras. I provide an itemised invoice with the relevant speech pathology item codes so you can claim directly from your fund. I do not bulk-bill to insurers; you pay at the session and claim afterwards. The rebate amount depends on your fund and level of cover.
Private speech therapy across Sydney
Private sessions are available at your home, at your child’s school, or via telehealth Australia-wide. Face-to-face service area covers the Inner West, St George, Canterbury-Bankstown, and Eastern Suburbs, based in Arncliffe. Common visit suburbs include Tempe, Rockdale, Marrickville, Hurstville, Bankstown, Bexley, Kogarah, and Burwood.
Bilingual sessions in English and Mandarin are available.
Who private speech therapy is for
I see the same range of clients privately as through NDIS and Medicare. Paediatric clients with speech sound, language, literacy, autism, ADHD, or stuttering concerns. Adults with voice, stuttering, post-stroke, or cognitive-communication goals. Bilingual and CALD families wanting accurate assessment in both languages. One-off assessments for school readiness, NDIS applications, or peace of mind.
Private and publicly funded work is clinically the same. I do not do a different or shorter session because you are paying privately versus through NDIS. The only differences are administrative.
