How it helps

How home-based sessions work

I bring everything. All assessment tools, materials, and therapy resources come with me. You do not need to prepare the house or buy anything. A quiet-enough space (a kitchen table, a bedroom, a study, a living room with the TV off) is all that is required.

For paediatric sessions, a parent or primary carer is usually present. This is how home-based therapy works best. You see exactly what I am doing, you learn the strategies in the moment, and you can carry them on between sessions. Carer education is not a bolt-on at the end of the session, it happens throughout.

For adult sessions, a family member or carer is welcome but not required. For aphasia and cognitive-communication work after stroke, having a family member present for some sessions is recommended, because the people around the person with communication difficulties are their daily communication partners.

Sessions run 45 to 60 minutes depending on the goal and the person. For young children, 45 minutes is often the right length. For older children and adults, 60 minutes is standard.

Mobile speech therapy across Sydney

My face-to-face service area covers the Inner West, St George, Canterbury-Bankstown, and Eastern Suburbs, centred on Arncliffe. Regular visits to Tempe, Rockdale, Marrickville, Hurstville, Bankstown, Bexley, Kogarah, Brighton-Le-Sands, Sans Souci, and Ramsgate. I also work regularly in Burwood, Strathfield, and parts of Inner West including Sydenham, Mascot, and Arncliffe itself.

Travel is included within standard rates for the core service area. For suburbs toward the edge of the 30 km radius (outer Canterbury-Bankstown, outer Eastern Suburbs), travel is calculated in line with the NDIS Price Guide for NDIS clients or flat travel fees for private and Medicare clients. I confirm all travel arrangements in the service agreement so there are no surprises on invoices.

For Sydney families outside the face-to-face area, telehealth is the alternative.

The face-to-face service area is within 30 km of Arncliffe, covering the Inner West, St George, Canterbury-Bankstown, and Eastern Suburbs. Common visit locations include Tempe, Rockdale, Marrickville, Hurstville, Bankstown, Bexley, Kogarah, Brighton-Le-Sands, and Burwood. Outside that radius, telehealth is the alternative.
Do I need to prepare anything at home?
Not really. A quiet-enough space (kitchen table, bedroom, study, or a living room with the TV off) is all that is needed. I bring all materials. For paediatric sessions, it helps if siblings are occupied elsewhere for the hour.
Is travel charged?
Travel within the core service area is included in the session rate. For suburbs at the edge of the 30 km radius, travel is calculated in line with the NDIS Price Guide for NDIS clients or a flat travel fee for private and Medicare clients. All travel arrangements are confirmed in writing in the service agreement before the first session.
Can we mix home visits with telehealth?
Yes. Many families do this. Home visits during holidays and flexible periods, telehealth during busy school terms or when travel is difficult. I adjust the plan to what works for your situation.
