When to consider NDIS speech therapy
NDIS funding for speech pathology supports participants whose communication difficulties affect daily life, learning, or community participation. Common reasons families and support coordinators contact me:
If you are unsure whether speech pathology is the right support, a free 15-minute discovery call is the best starting point. I will tell you honestly whether the goals fit the NDIS framework and whether a service agreement makes sense before we commit to anything.
What NDIS funds for speech pathology
Speech pathology sits under Improved Daily Living (Capacity Building, line item 15_056_0128_1_3). NDIS funding can be used for:
I charge at or below the current NDIS Price Guide rate for metro Sydney. The same rate applies whether I come to your home, your child’s school, or we work via telehealth. No hidden fees.
How I work with NDIS participants
I keep the process simple. Here is what happens from first contact to active therapy:
NDIS speech pathology across Sydney
I work across the Inner West, St George, Canterbury-Bankstown, and Eastern Suburbs. I visit homes, schools, preschools, and community hubs in Arncliffe, Tempe, Hurstville, Bankstown, Marrickville, Rockdale, Bexley, and Kogarah regularly. For participants anywhere in Australia, telehealth is available via secure video.
I deliver therapy in community settings because it works. Participants practice communication in the same environment where they need to use it. A child who learns a skill in my clinic room and never gets to use it at school has not really learned it yet. Home and school-based delivery closes that gap directly.
I speak English and Mandarin. For participants from Chinese-speaking backgrounds, I run sessions in English, Mandarin, or both. For other languages, I arrange TIS National interpreter bookings at no cost from the participant’s NDIS plan.
Plan management and invoicing
Plan-managed and self-managed plans are welcome. If you are plan-managed, I invoice your plan manager directly. If you are self-managed, I send invoices to you to claim via myNDIS. The paperwork on your end is minimal: a service agreement and a consent form before the first session. Everything else I handle.
NDIS Annual Progress Review
I write NDIS annual progress reports that document what was achieved, what the current functional level is, and what I recommend for the next plan period. These reports are required annually for children under 7 and available on request for all participants. They are written to NDIS evidence requirements and accepted by plan managers, LACs, and support coordinators.

Swallowing and eating difficulties under NDIS
Speech pathologists assess and treat swallowing disorders (dysphagia) as well as communication. NDIS participants with swallowing or feeding difficulties can fund speech pathology support under Improved Daily Living. Swallowing disorders can arise from cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury, motor neurone disease, and other neurological or developmental conditions. I assess functional swallowing and eating in the natural home environment, which gives a more accurate picture than a clinical setting for daily life management.
For swallowing disorders involving aspiration risk, I coordinate referral to the treating medical team. Speech Pathology Australia publishes guidance on dysphagia assessment and when it is warranted. Dysphagia support is most effective when the speech pathologist works alongside support workers and carers to implement safe eating and drinking strategies in everyday life, not just in sessions.
Working with your NDIS support team
NDIS participants often have a broader team of allied health providers and support workers involved in their care. Effective NDIS speech therapy supports independence, which means building communication skills that transfer into everyday life, not creating reliance on a therapist. I work alongside the participant’s support team rather than in a separate silo.
For participants with complex needs, I attend NDIS plan review meetings, participate in team meetings with support coordinators and LACs, and contribute written goal-setting recommendations. Progress notes are sent after every session and are available to carers and support coordinators. Collaboration between allied health disciplines, including occupational therapy and physiotherapy where relevant, produces better participant outcomes than each provider working independently. I refer to and accept referrals from other allied health providers as part of a participant’s broader plan.
Building communication independence is the core goal. Whether that means supporting an adult participant to communicate their needs in their community, helping a child navigate school transitions, or training support workers to carry communication strategies into home routines, the measure of success is what the participant can do in their daily life. Telehealth delivery via secure video is available for NDIS participants anywhere in Australia, including regional and remote areas where face-to-face allied health services are not available locally.
